Wind of God
I was reminded that it has been over a month since my last blog and decided that if I was serious about this blogging stuff that I had to find a way to write. Last time I wrote it was about the whirlwind...and it has turned into a full fledged tornado. My daughter recieved prophetic words about being called to the nations rather than just South Africa, and 4 days later she is flying home to start her ministry, Recklessly Abandoned. My son's fiance received her visa and a month later we were in Mexico City for the Mexico wedding, we came back the next day for services here and the next day after that Brent and Sol moved to the States and moved into the apartment downstairs. We had staff meeting, a midweek service where over 20 young people were baptized, my son is the Student Ministries Director at the Tinley Campus of Christian Life Center. Then two days later we had their wedding shower, which was just yesterday. Today we had two services and in less than two weeks I'm putting on the Chicago Wedding where I have invited the whole church. (We have over 2,000 in the church family here.) To top it all off, I'm doing silk flowers for all of the decorations for the wedding, actually I'm putting together the whole wedding, I'm preaching this coming Sunday, my computer died, and I lost my blogger account information. Sounds like a typical week for all of us now adays, doesn't it. The problem with such a schedule is that often God is added on rather than focused on. Our will is being pursued rather than His. Today I was reminded that it isn't about my family, wedding or ministry...it is about His purposes and His will. It is about His Spirit flowing and maybe even blowing through us. No matter what season you may find yourself in, I pray that this little reminder will help put you AND I back on track.
“Wind Of God”
Picture…tall blades of grass being gently blown by the wind beside the edge of a pond.
Hear…the Lord say, “There’s a breeze of my Spirit flowing, but I am getting ready to blow with the full force of my glory and power. Position yourself to receive all that I have for you, but with the understanding that it is not for you alone. It is so that you will be ready for me to use to touch others.”
Consider: I get pleasure from anything that has to do with the water. I enjoy swimming, snorkeling, fishing, white water rafting, parasailing, canoeing and boating. I especially get a thrill out of speedboats. The other day, while I was on a large expanse of water, I was watching the sailboats because there was hardly any breeze and it seemed like they were almost dead in the water. I almost felt sorry for them as the boat I was in continued to speed on the glassy surface of the water. But I noticed when the wind started to pick up that they were on it immediately. They started doing what sailors through the ages have done; they adjusted their sails so that they could get the maximum benefit of the wind. Not only do we need to position ourselves so that we will be ready to be “moved” into action by the powerful wind of God, we need to adjust our sails as the direction and force of that wind changes. The flow of the Spirit of the Lord isn’t going to flow in a direction just to accommodate our sails. God isn’t interested in our agenda and plans. He has a powerful work that He wants to do in the earth in these last days, and we need to be quick to make any adjustments needed to flow with the move of God. You need to position yourself to be responsive to the Spirit of God as He begins to blow in earnest. If you don’t know what that means for you, seek God’s face today. Put your own face to the wind of God, be attentive to His voice and be quick to follow His directions.
Pray: “Lord, I am a little like that commander of the army of the king of Aram, Naaman, who almost missed the miraculous because of the means by which it was delivered. I think I have a tendency to limit you with my expectations. I expect you to move a certain way, a way with which I am familiar. When it doesn’t happen, I tend to shrug my shoulders and think, ‘I guess God is not moving in my life today.’ When the truth is that you are moving, but perhaps in a totally unexpected and unfamiliar way. How much have I missed out on, because I was expecting you to move my way? That fast food joint that advertises, ‘Have it your way’ has tapped into our culture and our desire for things to be done the way we like it. But I do realize that it is the wrong approach to use with you. I want to live a lifestyle of patient expectation of whatever, and however you want to move. Guide me with your voice and I will be quick to respond. Blow on me, blow through me, in Jesus name, Amen.”
